South East Asia... short and sweet!

Travel Forums Asia South East Asia... short and sweet!

Myself and my girlfriend are going to asia in October. We fly into Bangkok and leave Bangkok 14 days later.

At the moment we're thinking of the following...

Bangkok - 1.5 days
Singapore - 2 days
Tokyo - 2 and a bit days
Hong Kong - 2.5 days
Bangkok - 2.5 days

In Thailand we'd like to do a day trip... see some of the country - jungles, rivers, the coast etc.

We don't mind doing it as a private tour or even flying out first thing and back last flight.

Thoughts... Kanchanaburi, Phuket or Chiang Mai (the latter would be day trips by plane).

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Euan

You'd be spending most of your vacation seated on a plane! Tokyo is by no means in SE Asia? I would suggest dropping Singapore and Tokyo in favor of Chiang Mai and Hanoi - I really think you'd enjoy them a great deal more - really 2 of the nicer/more interesting places in all of Asia.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I agree Tokyo isn't quite SE Asia. We spent nearly 3 weeks in Japan a few years ago and fancy going back. Most of our planned flights are first thing in the morning or in the evening.

However, will give consideration to dropping Singapore in favour of some time elsewhere in Thailand.

I agree with the previous post - drop a few places! You will be wasting all of your time flying everywhere. It's not just the flight time you also have to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight - plus that is a lot of checking in and checking out of hotels. Stick with Thailand, stay in Bangkok for a few days and then when you are there perhaps book a flight to Siem Reap or even Singapore for 3 or 4 days and then back to Thailand again. You got too many countries on your list for such a short amount of time available.

In Thailand it is real easy to get tours to Kachanaburi, rafting, riding elephants - lots of stuff - through travel agencies. They do this all the time, they will have a menu selection of popular places to see. Find a tour the day before and leave the following morning. Tour company picks you up at your hotel and returns you there. Same for Chiang Mai and Phuket - use travel agencies.

All of Thailand is pretty warm and sunny, you do not actually have to be at a beach to get some sun.

Good luck.

Thanks karazyal.

I think I'll look at ditching either Tokyo or Singapore. In the past we generally do 3/4 cities in a 2 week trip. We both want to see Hong Kong and we both fancy a couple of days back in Tokyo given how much we enjoyed it last time.

At least that would give us an extra 3 days in Thailand.

Well Singapore has now been canned :)

We're still planning on going to Hong Kong and Tokyo but can better arrange our schedule which should get much more time in Bangkok/Thailand.

Away to look at flight times now to see how it can be pieced together :)

Thanks for your comments... any others welcome.
