For everyone who says take a laptop someone else will say don't!

The only time I miss a laptop is when I am at an airport! Fortunately I have a gold card that often means using a VIP lounge with a free laptop - don't know about Dubai! In Thailand you will not really need a laptop with you because there are lots of cheap internet shops all over the place.

I haven't seen too many hotels that had a safety box big enough to store a laptop. Some travelers only worry about the hotel staff stealing stuff but you also have to be cautious of your fellow tourists staying in the hotel.

So, what do you do - take the laptop everywhere with you or take a chance and hide it in a locked bag?

One method I use overseas now is a flash drive with Firefox on it. The Firefox browser on the flash drive matches the Firefox home page on my computer. Every favorite or bookmark matches my home computer. When I plug that little FD into a rental computer it looks just like the computer at home! I also have Opera on it as well as Notepad and a ClamWin Anti-virus program. All of these are FREE apps that you can download. If you need the computer for saving photos you can instead take a smaller portable hard drive with you or a few more SD cards. Make sure the FD is password protected, I like the U3 system like in this link: http://www.u3.com/ (The ClamWin is to check the FD before I open it on my home computer - lots of virus infections you can get overseas!)

Good luck.

I'd just ensure I had a couple of half decent books on me
