heaps of fruitpicking work up in the northern Queensland area, i spent 2 months fruitpicking in Cardwell which is around 2 hours south of Cairns - in and around that area you have the choice of many small towns heading south towards Brisbane .... alot of which have 'working hostels' ... i got my job and checked into a Hostel (Cardwell Backpackers) and later found out that its a 'working hostel' of which you can turn up without a job and the owners will find one for you with the many farmers they have contact with in the area ... they even take you and pick you from work!!
the fruitpicking pay is pretty damn good ... i was on $17.50 PH ... this was during June/July 2008 so i cant comment if thats gone up or down since.
you mentioned Bundaberg - i had friends who crashed @ 'C Block' in Bundaberg and they had a blast, its a much bigger hostel than the 1 i stayed in so purhapse a better atmosphere come weekends (for the parties etc) ... that didnt worry me as all i wanted to do was knuckle down for 2 months solid, save the $$$ and get back on the road asap!
the time there is less Fruitpicking work is when the rain is about, altho June/ July is dry season in N-Queensland we had alittle spell of rain for a few days which put alot of us out of work ... so if your looking for work in the 'Rainy' season ... bear that in mind.
