Hi,

I'm from Ireland and my boyfriend and I want to spend a year away on a working holiday! we've already done Australia and New Zealand. So we were thinkin bout heading west instead and looking towards d states or Canada. D states would prob be our first choice but it is far more difficult to get visas for there.
Where would be good to go in Canada. I always wanted to go to Canada on a skiing trip but to work may be a different story!

Any advice or suggestions would be great!!

Cheers!!

Well, if it´s all about skiing and mountains, you would go to one of these two places, in my opinion. Banff national park in Alberta. Very nice and lots of skiing....

....or Vancouver in British Columbia. It´s my opinion that this is your best bet. There is so much construction going on in Vancouver right now that the service industry is suffering as all the young kids are swinging hammers rather than slinging hash. So it would be easy for you to find a job in this industry. Vancouver has the ocean and the mountains and it is often said that you could snow ski in the morning and water ski in the afternoon. Vancouver, in my opinion, again, is a somewhat lacklustre city, even though it is considered beautiful by many...The truth is that it is a boring city in a BEAUTIFUL setting. Still, many think I am an ass. So judge for yourself.

Good luck out there.

You're right - its pretty much impossible to get a working visa for the USA unless you apply for a Greencard. There is the option of like the summer camp programmes and stuff (not sure if you're into working with kids), but these visas are limited to several months. You can get a 1yr WHV for Canada however. If you're looking to be working at a ski resort this winter (ie. the end of '09), try Whistler....you might be able to get a job working the 2010 winter olympics!!
