Jakarta Hostel - Any suggestions?

Can any one suggest a good hostel for Jakarta for a few nights as arrive there early feb beore moving on.

Sorry to be vague, no idea just flying in to see travel friends before we head off to explore the country in more detail.

I guess some where central to get a flavour of things would be good if you have any tips would be welcome as google seems a little limited.

Hi there! Me too..I'm flying to Jakarta on the next 2 weeks..no plans yet..can anybody please suggest where is the best place to stay.. Accessibility to the shopping area, restaurants, tourist spots & night life will be great..

I stayed on Jalan Jaksa when I was there. There is a decent choice of guesthouses/hotels there to suit most budgets. I just picked one from lonely planet, cant remember the name now though.

Of course, the cheaper the better, but I also don't want to compromise comfort. 4 days away and I have absolutely no idea what to do and where to stay so help!!!

jalan jaksa is the fav place for most tourist....that have alot of hostel and hotel,

Stay in Jalan Jaksa. Some travellers say it is terrible but I did not find that, though I was not entirely on my own Iwas meeting a fellow traveller.
We stayed at Bloomsteen Hotel- ok enough.
I just jumped on one of the ojek ( motor bike and rider) outside the railway station ( I had come on an overnight train from Surabaya) and he took me to Jalan Jaksa with my big back pack.
Probably best to get the bus from the airport that goes to Gambir Station and then find your way to Jalan Jaksa from there.
All buses stop just outside where you come out of the airport- very easy.
Just make sure you get on the right one- there are so many of them.

Anyone not meeting anyone in Jakarta maybe consider getting the DAMRI air conditioned bus ot Bogor- about 2 hr trip.
set pricee around the 25,000 rupiah mark ( April 2008 price).
