As a British citizen, you are exempted from visa if you're entering Thailand for tourism purposes. At the border, you'll be given a social visit pass – not visa – that's valid for 30 days (if entering via airports) or 15 days (at overland checkpoints). This pass, stamped on your passport, is free.

If you want to stay for longer than 30 days, you have two options:
1. before the 30 days is up, go to another country, then re-enter Thailand and you'll get a new 15- or 30-day social visit pass.
2. apply for a Tourist visa at the Thai Embassy. It costs 1000 baht (or £28 at the Thai Embassy in London) for a single-entry visa and you can stay in Thailand for 60 days.
