Any ideas on what you'd like to see or do here? The big tourist spots (Disney, Hollywood, etc) or more of an out-of-the-way trip? Will you be with kids or is this an adult holiday?

Best,

Cheap Guy

You will really need a car for California - best roads in the world. They drive extremely fast in LA, so you need to know exactly where you're headed or else you'll have problems on the freeways. I like the coastal areas best - San Diego, Santa Barbara, Big Sur, Monterey Peninsula, Sonoma Coast. Don't miss Highway #1 from San Francisco south to Monterey/Carmel, Big Sur, Hearst Castle to San Luis Obispo. The Sierra Nevada mountains are another beauty spot (Lake Tahoe, Yosemite NP, Kings Canyon/Sequoia NP). I'm not a desert lover, and summer is not the time to see it anyway. California is home to fast food - hope you like burgers and fries? It's a very very VERY BIG state!
Prices compare with the UK - about the same (cities are expensive - cheaper in smaller towns, we save by using large highway stores like Walmart, Kmart and Target. A cheaper motel chain is Motel 6 or Econo Lodge.)

You might like Oregon better - not as crowded, not as much traffic, more beautiful and cheaper (no sales tax or VAT at all).
