Somebody recommended me Metropol Hostel in Madrid?? I am going to Madrid next month and we want a safe, clean and economic place to stay... We want to spend between 25 and 30€. Has somebody gone to this hostel???

We stayed there last year and didn't like it at all. Although we were booked in for three nights we actually made the unusual step of booking out of it early and finding somewhere else after the first night. I'm not sure if there are better rooms overlooking the street, but ours had a fine view of a dingy back alley and the neighbours on the other side - not particularly pleasant (not to mention a breeding ground for giant cockroaches it seemed). We just didn't get any sleep due to some very rowdy tenants and hey, I like to be well rested in the morning We didn't even stay for breakfast...
We stayed in quite a few hostels while we were in Spain and all the others were of a far higher standard than this one. Oh, and mind the hookers and pimps on the short stroll to Puerta del Sol - it seemed to be one of the dodgier streets in town. There was a sign outside the hostel to warn you though: 'no prostitution allowed in here'. There seem to be people who like this place though for some or other reason.

Hmm.. maybe things have changed since we were there. Or maybe I was just in a bad mood. Admittedly, we just came from a 2 star hostel in Toledo that was exceptional in standard - with a nice bed, great bathroom, balcony and even such luxuries as hairdryers, better than some hotels I've stayed in. Then the hostel Metropol had a sign outside saying it was 3 stars, which was very hard for us to believe. I can swear that we didn't even have hot water while we were there.
The organised activities sound like a drawcard - something we never took advantage of, so wouldn't really know. There is free internet there, which can be nice, but usually I find it quite hard to get any internet time in at such free terminals - there's generally a lot of people hovering waiting to get online I invariably go find a cafe, so I can spend as much time as I like..
Don't be put off by me though - different people have different tastes and I can't really say that the alternative we ended up staying in in Madrid was much better (although the bathroom was somewhat nicer). If you need a recommendation for Toledo though, I'd be happy to give one

Ha, what do you know! So it turns out that no-one really disagrees with me after all. This just goes to show what a crappy hostel Metropol really is!
i stayed at this hostel last week and it was fine.
free internet, breakfast.
rooms were clean.. street was a little noisy at night but could sleep fine.
one of the side streets had a few sex shops but other than that it was fine
I also have gone there.. it was nice.
