A cheese cake tread, hooray!!! What a fabulous idea, Sander! I LOVE cheesecake!

Therefore, similar to the German bread, I try to find it where ever I go and my top 4 recommendations in random order
for now are:

New Zealand:
Pandoro Panetteria, 14 Woodward St, Wellington City
Franchise of the one in Auckland.
I used to work there for a couple of months and almost daily ate their chocolate cheesecake on my break. Sooooo yummy!

Australia:
THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY PTD LTD
236 SMITH ST COLLINGWOOD VIC 3066
Down the road from where I used to live in Melbourne. Guess I tried about ten different kinds of their cheesecake and I was never dissapointed!

USA:
Rocco Pastry Shop, 243 Bleecker St, New York
Was there recently and their New York cheese cake made my day! Cupcakes are so overrated anyway...

Germany:
KORIAT Cake factory, Pannierstra├če 29, 12047 Berlin
Again, down the road from where I live (can you see a pattern there ;)), their white chocolate/cherry is the best cheese cake I have ever had in Germany. On that note I might have to go and get some now....

Hope this is helpful for your research, Sander and let me know when you come to Berlin, so we can have some cheese cake together.

Steff

The Gradski Kavana in Dubrovnik... (http://www.ivebeenthere.co.uk/tips/4218) While ordering the cheese cake make sure to try out the Banana cake as well.

Quoting Sander

Having been deprived of even knowing about cheesecake for most of my life (we just don't have them in the Netherlands)

Actually, I have many memories of eating kwarktaart in the Netherlands. They were somewhat a b'day staple when we lived there - making them from packets is very easy and still very tasty.

Not enough of a connoisseur to say where the best ones are. But when you're next in Melb, try "Gluttony is a Sin" in Collingwood or "Brunetti's" in Carlton - both have great cakes and probably good cheesecakes among them :)

Oh gods, yeah - my mother had a period where she kept making those. I always loathed them. Doesn't even come close to a real New York-style baked cheesecake. Kwark is no substitute for cream cheese.

I'd hate to say it but Those big chain restaurants in America...The Cheesecake Factory.

You can close your eyes and point at the menu and you'll find something you like. Can't remember the exact name but one that everybody seems to love is Pumpkin-spice cheesecake or pumpkin-pie cheese cake. It's cheesecake and pumpkin pie mixed. Good lord.

Who ever thought of combining pumpkin pie with a cheesecake should be able to live tax-free.

I'm right there with you...and its shameful that they sell them at costco. i like all the varieties, but the good old plain one is good enough for me.

I ate the best cheesecake in the world ever - EVER - in Dharamsala, India. Yup. Unlikely spot I know, but the Green Hotel in MacLeod Ganj, run by a very lovely Tibetan family, served THE BEST cheesecake, and carrot cake, and, erm, brownies I have ever tasted. Not to mention breakfast....
