Am spending about two weeks in Koh Phangan then goin to Koh Samui for a few days in march..
Assuming its handy enought to get a ferry to Samui from ko phangan.. anyway will be travelling alone and am torn between both Als resort or Baan chaweng resort?

Any suggestions as to which would be best?

Also would I be best to book these before I go or wait till I get there?

Sorry one more question .. regarding flying back to Bangkok.. again should I book flight before I go? is the airport far from Chaweng?

Thanks in advance

I went there a few years ago. we got our accomodation upon arrival. get some guy ina pick up van to take you to some decent beach huts should be paying about £5 a night. if they say the local area as 'fully booked' and you must go 20 mins into the hills to get accomodation there probably lying and will be trying to get you to their accomodation. theres loads of places to stay. dnt give up if some where is busy, just try the next place. we got ona speed boat from koh pang ngan to koh samui, cost next to nothing and was a right laugh.

good luck eh

I spent three and a half months travelling through Malaysia, Thailand, Lao and Cambodia and booked accomodation only once and that was for when we first arrived from Australia. After that we just found it was easier and some times cheaper to organise when you get there, we arrived in Koh Samui and just wandered the main street going into the guesthouses asking for prices and some times looking at the rooms. Most of the guesthouses are all in the one area so its easy to go to one by one until you get a deal you are happy with.

from your selection I'm assuming you're looking to stay in Chaweng?

I don't know what you're after, but my girlfriend and I spent a few weeks on Ko Samui back in September...loved it...apart from chaweng, which was a complete dump, smelly, dirty etc. We stayed at Big Buddha beach which was great. If I remember rightly we only payed about 10 bucks a night for accommodation too, and that was for a clean room with TV, fridge, airconditioning right on the beach. I can't remember the name of the place but it was west of the pier in the center of the beach.

The only reason I could think of staying in Chaweng would be if all you want to do is hit the bars and nightlife and nothing else.

been to Koh Samui twice and both times I stayed at Chaweng Beach
and I agree with msmiththeman
Chaweng is about sex drugs and (I wished rock and roll) but just
loud music everywhere.
If you are looking for that then go for it, you will enjoy it.
the second time I fled and went to Koh Tao. . . .

Koh Samui has more to offer than what Chaweng beach offers you
at Koh Samui depending on what time you arrive just take a taxi to
Chaweng beach, get off on the main road and go accomodation
shopping. look at the rooms and ask for how much it costs
When you arrive at night I advice to book one night at an accomodation
beforehand so a shuttle with pick you up. If the accomodation is crap
you can check out next day and go look for a new place. . . .I did that
the first time.

Good luck !

enjoy your trip

In relation to flying to bangkok i thing i got a 12-16 hour coach/ferry combo from bangkok to samui really can remember how much that was (sorry), but you can get the same thing to phanagn, somui was lovely....but not chaweng...ild avoid that place like the plague!
