Looks like its finally happened. Running my card in various internet cafes and its now finally got a virus. last time I p-ut the card in my laptop it came up that there was a virus and i deleted a couple of exe files. Now it says there are no files on it, but when i look at properties it shows the same 1.6 gig still used and when i turn the camera on it still has the pics on there. So whats next?

have you deleted the photos from the memory card in the camera?as long you dont do this the card will keep all images stored.
go to the menue at your camera till you find the ' Delet all" then you take OK
next thing your camera should show is "NO Pictures,or empty card!!

as long you do'nt do this the images will be storaged on the memory card.
but before you delet the card make sure that you have your photos downloaded properly to your PC.

well thats the problem. i have most of them backed up, but some that I took yesterday are not, and Id really like to save them. Is there no way to force the card to give them up?

If you dont will clear /delet the whole card then you have to delet the images you have uploaded on your PC individual .This takes more time but if you just wanna make space on your memory card without loosing the new images then you have to do it this way.

Chances are the virus is preventing windows from seeing the folder where the photos are.

Have you an updated anti virus on your computer?

If your computer can't see the folder then it might have a virus itself. Make sure you have a updated AV and run it on your laptop.

If it were me, I would use a live linux cd, open the memory card and take out the photos. With the photos safe and backed up, I would then format the card.

I'm suspicious why your laptop is not picking up the folder. So do check your AV.

Try setting windows explorer to show all hidden files and see if they're there.

Just to be on the safe side you may want to re-format the card before using it again.

Note that certain types of memory cards have a tiny switch on the side which allows you to lock it to prevent the card reader (computer, camera, etc) from writing or deleting anything on it. If yours have it, slide it to the lock position whenever you need to use it on a computer that's not trusted. Just remember to unlock it when putting it back into your camera!

I'd also recommend always carrying a spare memory card with you, so if one goes dolallee you just pocket it and worry about it when you get home. In the meantime use the spare.
