Hi,
I wanted to go for a trip through England in April.
Now I'm wondering, what the best city could be to start off.
Are there any advices?
The trip shouldn't be longer than one month.

There are so many places you can go. You'll probably find it easier to start in London, although you could also get a ferry to Dover and start from there. I'm from the South Coast so I can tell you a lot about this area. If you like music and a good night out you should go to Brighton. It's also famous for its gay image but I've never really noticed anything to be honest. Cornwall you should definitely check out, especially in the summer. Exeter/Plymouth are worth visits but they are a bit out of the way of everything. You'll probably end up going through Portsmouth and Southampton to get there, I'd guess. Bristol you should definitely check out - its a brilliant city. London goes without saying, you can spend as long as you want here, it's such a great place. Other than that, you're looking at the north/midlands. Obviously play tribute to Oxford and Cambridge as they are old university towns but you'll probably be hard pushed to find loads of things to do here apart from look at all the colleges, most of which are beautiful (I'm studying at Cambridge next year and personally I think it is more beautiful than Oxford, but the city itself is a bit smaller). You should also go to Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Durham, Newcastle and any other places you feel like going to. I've probably forgotten a few cities but you should definitely check out all the ones I mentioned. But in my opinion the real taste of England lies not in its cities but its villages. Go to some local pubs, stay in a nice bed and breakfast and meet some locals if you can! |
