I was wondering if i would have a problem opening a new account, without a WHV. I've been to Australia before with a WHV. I know you need 100 points to open an account, so does the WHV matter? like for points. Maybe just my drivers licence and passport would do? any help would be greatful.

I recently took a French backpacker to the ANZ bank in Australia. All that he needed to open an account was his passport and an address for his credit card to be sent to. Card arrived within 4 days. So, a passport and photo ID would be amore than enough. Just tell the bank that you are on a temporary backpacking holiday.

Would a hostel address suffice?

A hostel address would be fine - they just need somewhere to post your credit card to. You could check your account via the internet so there is no need to have them post monthly account details to you. You would, of course need to be staying at the hostel for five or so days or arrange for them to hold your mail.
