Definitely Manchester. The people are friendly (we actually chat with each other on our publici transport, unlike Londoners!), the music scene is great - theres always a gig going on somewhere, the city centre is big enough for everything you need but small enough to walk round and it's cheaper because it's up North. It does have a reputation for raining a lot though...!

How come no one mentioned Oxford or Cambridge?? I heard they are the in-between or london and rural?

Cambridge is lovely but a bit quiet (I have 10years experience...trust me!) Manchester is great but if you have a choice of anywhere! phew, what a choice!! I'd defo think about Edinburgh, Imagine, cheap accommodation for the festival eh? eh?! Newcastle is really up and coming too, or somewhere more southern, Brighton is absolutely fabulous dahling!

Wish I was in your boots, fancy free an all that!
