Here's the list:

Traffic overall went up quite a bit from December to January, but looks like on average the number of visits to the guide went up by about 30%. Some of the biggest traffic gainers (ie. higher percentage growth) were the Russia (115% rise), Guatemala (94%), Backpacking in Australia (77%), North America (70%), France (68%), Famous places and things (68%), Central America (66%), Germany (64%) and Mexico (61%).

All in all, a lot of the top articles have stayed the same over the last few months, but it's interesting seeing where some of the movement is happening.

Eric thanks so much this is very interesting. Do you think the spike could have been seasonal? I noticed my clicks are lower this month compared to the last two. Although it is only a week and half into the month. Keep up the good work.

Hi Michael, there is certainly a seasonal lift usually during January. Decembers are traditionally slow for travel sites. There was definitely a boost in Jan though that wasn't just seasonal.

I just compared the traffic this Jan to last Jan in the guide (all URLs with the word "guide" in them) - total number of page views.

2009: 84,710
2008: 61,388

A 37.99% increase. I think this can go up a hell of a lot still mind you, as content is indexed better and the profile is increased. Getting traffic to content like this is often a matter of patience though.

Actually, maybe my logic wasn't so good.. December 08 was roughly that much better than December 07 as well :) So it's probably gradually increased over the year.

Well the more information the better. And more good information is even better. I assume, just from the year i have been writing here, that the amount of content has really sky rocketed. Makes more people come to the pages then.

To attract more people to the guide, it would nice to have a little more attention on the frontpage. I get a nice list of new blog entries, latest forum posts, new members etc. But the only link on the frontpage to the Travel Guide is a very small one under site "areas". Isn't it time to give it a more prominent place?

I agree absolutely. As I mentioned in the other thread, this is on the to-do list - just a matter of getting it done!

Sorry that this was posted in two different topics, but Michael refered to it in the other topic, after I posted it here.
