Hello everyone!

This is my first post here. I have been reading through previous posts which I found very helpful. I am going, hopefully for 12 months on a WHV, on my own. I'm from Ireland and looking forward to it a lot, although I can't help but feel very anxious also as I am a natural worrier.

Hostels? - I am worried about my initial choice of hostel (wise up I hear you say) as I have never stayed in a hostel before and would be worried about security of posessions etc. The more I read reviews the more confused I am as reviews are such a mixed bag. Can anyone recommend a hostel in Perth? after getting more confused I was going to choose the Billabong hostel.

Work? - I am hoping to secure work a.s.a.p. I plan on applying for my tax file number the day I arrive online. Can I use my hostel address? I will check jobs boards, ask around, bring my CV to send/handout, check ads in windows etc. Does anyone know how difficult it is to find work? Is it just a case of how hard you look? I will consider any kind of work but would prefer something possibly sociable e.g bar work. I would do office based work, cleaning, retail, fruit picking etc

Bank? - Can anyone recommend a bank? I was wondering which is best for using other ATM's and I would like an account for EFT's from and to the UK with e-banking. I was looking at the National Bank of Austrlia for everyday banking.

Sim/Mobile? - I see I can buy a vodafone sim card on ebay.co.uk for £15. Is this worthwhile or a rip off? Does anyone know how I can go about getting a sim card in Australia and if so what is the best value for money?

I know folks that I'm asking a lot but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone else will be going to Perth at this time you are welcome to get in touch.

Thanks!

Here goes:
1. have never had anything stolen in a hostel in many years of travel. Just did 4 monthRTW, booked all accommodation from hostel sites before departure, read reviews etc, was not disappointed with a single one. Anyway, you can always move.

2. Work, not sure there

3. Any of the big banks will be fine: ANZ, Commonwealth, NAB, Westpac

4. SIM, we took a pay as you go UK vodafone sim, 50p texts to send, free to receive, don't even think about making a call. You can buy SIM cards easily in australia if you want a local one. Check online at comparison sites to get an idea of costs, they change all the time.

Sorry, I should have stated that it is an Australian Vodafone sim card I can buy for under £15. There are other companies like Optus etc. I can use my inclusive 3 mins to call UK as long as I am on the 3 network whilst in Australia so phoning family and friends is taken care of. I want to know what the best for calling and texting numbers in Australia really I suppose.
