RTW starting with few hundred quid

Travel Forums Round the World Travel RTW starting with few hundred quid

hi all!

I am 26 from UK and am planning on beginning travelling RTW late this year. By October I should have Credit Card / Overdraft paid off and if setting out late december, will have just a few hundred pounds to start with.

Is this realistic?

I plan to start in europe, finding work where i can, and to camp out most of the time.

Does anybody out there have any tips / advice for me.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!
Dave. x

Unless you have very specific highly in demand skills to quickly start earning a lot of money with work, or lots of experience with doing this kind of things, combined with an amazing amount of luck and perseverence (not just "above average", but more of it then anyone else in a random group of a couple of thousand travellers), this does not sound realistic to me. "A few hundreds pounds" won't last you a month in Europe even if you're amazingly frugal (two weeks would be more realistic), and camping out in Europe in December?? Have you considered the average temperatures? It might be doable in Spain or Portugal, but even there it's iffy...

I'm not saying it's completely impossible. There's those people out there who have the ability to beat the odds and scrape by no matter what. Statistically, however, I think it's unlikely that you are one of those people, and so I suspect that come January you'd have run out of money and would be lucky if you could still manage to get back home somehow.

It's always easier to earn money and spend less when at home than when abroad. For almost everyone, work while travelling is a way to stretch the money, not to actually fund those travels. So, I'd recommend staying at home for another couple of months after December, living as frugally as you can and working as much as you can. Then set out halfway through 2010 when you at least have a buffer of a few thousand pounds.

Hi 7sep7,

A few hundred pounds is completely unrealistic for a RTW trip starting in Europe. Sorry to be blunt, but Europe is pretty pricey to travel around and a few hundred pounds would maybe last 1-2 weeks, compared to asia where you could scrape by for maybe a month.

You stated above that you hope to pay off your credit card / overdraft before you go.......Do you then intend to hammer them whilst you are away, as that might be the only option.
