Camping in SEA

Travel Forums Asia Camping in SEA

Hi everyone!
my boyfriend and I will be visiting SEA from April the 15th till 01st of july this year.
We will fly to Hong kong and then travell by land to Singapore where we will fly out to OZ.
We are travelling on a budget like many backpackers and we were wondering if it's worthed to take our own tent from UK and then camp (when it's possible) or we can just use hostels ect.
Second reason (might be silly) for asking this is kg's allowance (on BA only 20 kg per person) it might be cheaper to buy once we are there. What do you think guys

Any info you might have it will be very welcome indeed.

Hi

First of all I don't think you can travel from HK to anywhere by land. It is an island.

I don't think Hong Kong & Singapore are allowed for the tent. You better stay in hostel.

You would have to check in the laws for each country your going to.
Accomodation in SEA is quite cheap and all, I don't think many people would camp, unless they go to really remote areas. Personally I wouldn't bother with a tent for SEA but that's me :P

Yes but it's easy enough to travel on to the chinese mainland from there (Kowloon is not an island anyway - only Hong Kong Island is) and from China you could cross into Northern Vietnam.

I haven't heard of anyone camping in SE Asia as accommodation is so cheap there so is really no need. Also you may find it hard to sleep in a tent with the heat and humidity - in a guesthouse you would get a fan or air-con.

Hong Kong island is an island (obviously) but most of HK is on the mainland (I'm being a bit picky, I know hehe). Not sure about camping, but if you do decide to camp I would buy a tent while you are there to save luggage on the plane. You wont be able to camp in HK I wouldn't imagine as it is a very busy city!! You could try the central reservations in the roads but I think you will be moved on .
It sounds like a great trip though and I am sure you will have a real adventure. I may even bump into you as I will be in HK on 17/18 April. So if I see a mad couple putting their tent up outside the Peninsular Hotel I will know it is you and say hi!!

Hey Hello everyone!!!

Thanks guys!
The trip is going to be amazing!! This will be my first time out of europe...

and... I know that Italians are seen as loud but I will never camp on a traffic reservation..
ihihi even tough it could be fun... eheh

We have 2 & 1/2 months to visit all those countries hopefully that would be enough.

If anyone has more info about it or want to meet up somewhere while we're there I'm more than happy to organize it! We are also spending 2 months in Oz b4 moving to new zeland.

Hey I know that Hong Kong is an Island... I was broadly speaking...

I just kidding! Thai always smile and laugh...

Oh! If you really want to do camping; recommended Koh Samed (Eastern) and Pai (Northern).
