Would you pay for a local service?

Travel Forums General Talk Would you pay for a local service?

Hi there,

I am travelling a lot for business and was very often really screwed when I had no chance to have a local by my side to get to the places I needed.
I was once in Instanbul and could not even speak out the name of the street I wanted to go to and the company I was heading for was not known by the taxi driver. Of course you find always a way around the language issues, but when I once was in Kairo I got an offer by a limo driver, who told me for 100 USD he would show me the Pyramids and drive me around. It was for sure worth the 100 USDs and I thought it would be great if I could go somewhere on the web and "book" services directly from a local.

So am not sure if that would be a success and therefore I would be interested in your opinion - what is your experience with local services? And would you pay for it?

ciao, m

Exactly what type of service do you mean by "local service" - it could mean most anything?

yes in general everything.
as in my case when I am there for business I would love to have somebody who is driving me around - if my girlfriend is with me and I have to work, somebody could offer to go with her shopping.
If somebody wants to play Golf or Mountainbike tour, he has mostly not the euqipment with him, so somebody could organsize everything.... something like that.

The real question for me is: is that something only I would do? Or are others also interested?
