Can anyone please tell me which is the best and cheapest way to reach Termini station from Fiumicino airport in Rome? I blackled and found out the Leonardo Express and it costs 11 euros. I think that the local train to Piramide can also take me close to the Termini and from Piramide I will have to get on to the metro. Does the ticket of the local train work on the Metro as well or will I have to get another ticket for it? And how long does the Local Train take from Fiumicino to Piramide Metro station? And how long does the metro take from Piramide to Termini?
Please advice on the above!
We took the train from the airport directly to Termini station--a quick, simple trip. Can't remember the cost off hand, but it was affordable and convenient.
As you already found out, taking the FR1 train (linea Fara-Sabina) heading for Orte is the cheapest option. The trains call at different stations in Rome: all have ongoing connections to Termini with train FR5. In addition, you can change to Metro B at Ostiense/Piramide or Tiburtina, to Metro A at Tuscolana and to bus and street car at Trastevere. All options take about the same time.
Rome has no integrated public transport tickets: you need separate tickets for separate means of transport. Tickets for the FM1 line and other regional trains can be obtained from the machine at the platform at Fiumicino, or the ticket desk (specifically say which train, or else you'll get tickets for the more expensive Leonardo Express). Tickets for tram and bus can be obtained from the driver. Metro tickets are available from machines at the stations; they only accept coins, no bills.
