Hotel Holiday in Getsemani in the centre of town. It's on Calle Media Luna. Walk through the clock tower in the centre and then turn left, walk diagonally through Parque Centenario, marvel at the sheer ugliness of the low rent hookers. The other side will be Calle Media Luna. Walk one and a half blocks further, the Hotel is on your left. Tell Benjamin (day) or Robert (night) Derek said hello.
Alternatively, after Parque Centenario, walk ONE block, and then turn left. Walk exactly half a block and stop into Casa Viena. I know nothing of this place other than that travellers like to stay there....
Alternative Two. Parque Centenario. Walk diagonal half way through the park to the Cenotaph. Turn directly east and straight through the park past the basketball court. Exit the park, and cross the street down the street in front of you. There is a hardware paint store on your left on that corner. Go past all of the rough hewn types who are nothing but nice and don't sweat them for even a second. Notice the Junkyard shop that is in a small room...Those guys take apart anything that they can find, mostly on the street outside the the Sanford and Son junk room that they have going in there.....
....but I digress.....
On your left will be the Hotel Real. It is a fine place and the courtyard is gorgeous. The family that runs it are very nice, but the grandmother who is perpetually sitting in a rocking chair where she has access to stopping anyone who passes to sit and bable with her can be frustrating. The rooms are great. The two rutting turtles can be a nuisance as they sneak into first floor rooms and screw when the maid isn't looking.
There. A couple of choices. Holiday is the cheapest and the best for meeting other packers and finding out where to go....By the way. The Housekeeper's name is Monaand is a great friend. Tell her I said hi too...and give her a cheek kiss for me.
