Travel Forums Asia 11 days in Thailand

Dear friends,

We are going to Thailand in a few days and since this is a spontaneous trip (connected with a business trip of my bf) we have very little time to plan ahead. We will be spending 3 days in Bangkok, then we'll go to Ko-Samui, 6 days there, back to Bangkok for 1 day and then back home.

All in all - 4 days on Bangkok, 6 full days on the island. We were also thinking to take the ferry to Ko phan gan.

We realize this is not nearly enough time to spend in this beautiful country, but that's all we have for now. :)

So... If you could recommend us some highlights of Bangkok and around it, and also special things to do on Ko phan gan and Ko-Samui (besides the SPA etc.), we would be very glad.

Also, I am going to arrive at Bangkok at 14:00, and my bf flies in only 10 hours later, so I'm going to have a few hours in Bangkok by myself. Are there any areas a girl shouldn't walk around alone in in the evening?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thank you so much

Polina

Lots of things to see in Bangkok:

Do your Bangkok shopping on the last day so you don't drag everything around with you.

Bangkok is about as safe as anywhere for single girls. If someone wants to steal from you, it's be done by pick-pocketing in a crowd. Don't accept any drinks from strangers and don't leave a drink on the table while you go to the toilet or it may get doctored. Much of the tourist life is around Silom and Patpong in the evening. A very large and busy market and it does include the redlight district, but you'll see families about so no problems. Skytrain is the easiest way to get around (Sala Daeng for Silom). Taxis are metered and cheap but traffic is a bit of a nightmare.

Have you booked accommodation? asiarooms is good. Your bf can get a taxi there from the airport rather than you maybe waiting hours and hours for a delayed flight and an extra trip (not cheap) to the airport and back. I'm sure he can manage on his own.

Dear Cyberia,

Thank you so much for your advices, I am glad it is safe there (and I definitely didn't know about the drinks). I intend to book a room this Sunday, will check out asiarooms!

Yes, I actually did not intend to go pick him up from the airport: he usually knows his way around new cities much better than I do. :)

Thank you so much, I also would like to know the situation with change points in Bangkok (and, if you know, on the islands). Thanx again!
