Hi Guys,

Looking forward to your expert and detailed feedback as I know that I am in the right place and there are plenty of you out there who can offer advice and assistance.

I will be arriving in to Turkey towards the middle of this year and intend to stay for just a little over 5 weeks. I intend to travel as much and get around as much as I can.

Please help in answering below questions:

1. Which airlines are the cheapest for domestic flights in Turkey?
2. Which tour companies would you recommend to use?
3. In major cities should I rent a car and drive around or use the ubiquitous dolmus (minibuses) Cost isn't the issue but rather comfort and practicality.
4. Which hotels would you recommend in cappadocia, Istanbul, Mersin, Adiyaman etc

For now this is all that comes to my mind and if there is anything else I will add it later.
In the meanwhile as far as accomodation is concerned I don't want to slum it out in poor 1 start places or expensive 5 star places like Hilton. 3 - 4 star average places would be the go.

Thanks in advance.

1) Sun express, Jet air, Onur air are the cheapest airlines in Turkey. You don't necessarily need to fly between these cities. Sometimes the bus can be cheaper.
3) Istanbul and Mersin you don't need a car
Cappadocia having a car is practical.
Adiyaman I don't know
4) I'm from Mersin and can help you with hostels there. Where exactly are you going in Mersin?

hi,

Transportation:
Airline links:

www.thy.com
www.atlasjet.com
www.onurair.com.tr
www.flypgs.com

I suggest to use bus for domestic transportation in Turkey but sometimes prices almost same with flights, checkout this bus companies:

www.varan.com.tr
www.ulusoy.com.tr
www.kamilkoc.com.tr

You can also use train:

www.tcdd.gov.tr

Do not rent a car in big cities like Istanbul, traffic is terrible and it is really hard to find a parking place...
It is reasonable in Cappadocia though...

3* hotel has same confort 5* Hiltons in US if you go to 5* hotel they are like Savoy's in Europe

Take a look to these sites for hotel reservations:

www.bookinturkey.com
www.nisanyan.net

Goog luck

1. Thanks for the options and I will be searching their websites for flights etc. I agree the bus will be cheaper and I may also rent a car.

3. Thanks.

4. In Mersin my dad has a friend and I might stay there for a day and for a day at acommodation. I particularly want to visit the Ashabi Kehf cave and also will either fly from mainland Turkey in to Ercan in North Cyprus or catch a ferry from Tasucu with Fergun shipping to Girne for a couple days in North Cyprus.

Hello Bulent,

I couldn't agree more with the traffic in Istanbul being crazy. Lucky I have relatives there whom can drive me around or I will tag along some tours.

Hi ResmeN
My sister and I went to Istanbul and Cappodocia. Every place we stayed was perfect so I'd like to share them with you.

In Cappodocia we stayed at Esbeli Evi. We did not rent a car but the owner of the guest house (hotel) arranged to have us driven to whereever we wanted to go. The driver would wait for us and then take us to the next place. It was not expensive but not cheap either. I can't say enough about the wonderful accomodation at Esbeli Evi. We could easily walk to town and our gracious host recommended the best restaurant!!! I have unforgettable memories of the entire experience.

In Istanbul we found a private flat to rent which is no longer available. However, it was around the corner from a newly renovated hotel where we ate several times. The hotel was clean, the food delicious and the location was next to the Galata Tower so we never got lost since the tower is such an obvious landmark. The hotel was called the Anemon Galata. The dining room has the most spectacular view and all this can be reached from the underground tunel to save you from the climb up the hill.

We also stayed at a great guest house in Izmir if you go there. Let me know if you would like the name of it. I'll have to look it up.

How exciting you get to visit Turkey!!!!
