is full moon party worth changing around plans

Hi,

So i arrive in thailand march 2nd with a friend. We heard of a great 3 day jeep tour up north and want to do that within a day or two after arrival. Straight from there should we go to koh phangan and try to catch the full moon on march 10th? I kinda want to but the problem is finding a place to stay on Koh Phangan. Everything is booked already around Haad Rin and I only can find Smile Beach Resort in Haad Salad.

Can anyone tell me any info about smile beach resort ? or haad salad?

my other idea is to just ditch the full moon party and go from bangkok to koh phi phi which wont be full and prob easy to find accommodations. From koh phi phi maybe i'll go to koh lanta than work our way to koh phangan after the full moon period is over.

If I was you I'd ditch the Full Moon party, because I found it nothing special at all. We spent five days on Koh Phangan and I thought the party was actually kind of boring. Lot's of people just getting wasted, so there wasn't really a good vibe about it. Much prefered the days leading up to the party, with fire jugglers on the beach and generally a nice atmosphere in Haad Rin. Save yourself the hassle of rushing to Koh Phangan and visit another time, then you'll be able to find decent accomodation and explore the off the beaten track places in the North West of the Island.

Definitely is! I was due to leave SE Asia in Oct '04 but stayed an exra 2 months. I went tot eh main one in Se't 04 I think a record 24000 people were there!

I went to the Nov one, less people, and I was awake 37 hours! Wasn't well having been on aniti-malaria tablets.

However it was VERY stormy and beach furniture was washed away!

I missed the Tsunami by 9 days
