Hi All, just signed up to your site , looks very informative.

I'm currently in Thailand, near the Laos border, and need to get a Chinese visa. Can I get one in Bangkok or anywhere close? Maybe Laos or Cambodia perhaps. I don't have a work permit and am here on a tourist visa. I read that you can get one in Hong Kong , is this true? and does anyone have any info on this. I really don't want to travel back to the UK !! And I don't think I've got time to Fedex my passport home either. Please, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should be able to get a Chinese visa in Bangkok, Vientiane or Phnom Penh.

You can definitely get one in Hong Kong. But with all the embassies, as you are applying outside your country of residence, it may take a few days longer to process so make sure you factor this into wherever you will be when you apply for the visa.

Hey loubylou,

Thanks for the info , appreciated. Think I'll call the Chinese embassy in the morning just to be on the safe side. I've heard mixed reports regarding this issue.

Regards. Martin.

Hello , Just thought i'd let you know that I successfully obtained my chinese visa today. It was no trouble at all getting it in BKK , basically in and out on the same same - 2300 baht. Did not have to show any evidence of trip, nothing. Thanks for the advise, excellent, a happy traveller.
