Hey all,
have to spend a few nights in Lisbon in mid March. Anybody know any good live music venues, jazz, funk, latin etc.. Not Fado, sorry, it's too quiet for me? I've been to Lisbon once before so I know the layout a little.

Thanks in advance as usual.

Hey Zaksame,

Here are some places where you can hear great music and have a good time, let me know what you think of the places when you get back home:)

- Maria Caxuxa. R da Barroca, 6-12. Seg-Sáb, 17h-02h; Dom, 21h-02h. /This a bar where you'll hear good music anything from electronic to jazz. You can eat excellent toast at this place:)

- also check out this site, where you'll find an extensive agenda for the month of March...
http://www.epilepsiaemocional.org/agenda/

- another site where you can be updated on all concerts in and around Lisbon....http://lazer.publico.clix.pt/pesquisa.asp?id=-1&qw=Pesquisa+livre&cid=E7&dt=2&zp=3&lg=Localidade

If you require any further help, just let me know:)

Hi there,

You can also see a listing of bars/cafés/clubs with live music here:

http://www.tipsguidelisboa.com/templates/lisbon-live-music-bars/live-ind.asp?gerarchia=02.02

Of those listed here, I strongly recommend Hot Club for Jazz, Santiago Alquimista for alternative/indie music. And Chapitô for the great view over Lisbon...and again, great toasts :) Cabaret Maxime is a recently renovated old haunt with a cabaret-like atmosphere (just the atmosphere, don't worry) with lots of events, so you should check the programme beforehand.

Have a great time,

Joao

Hi there,
Speakeasy and Hot club (praça da Alegria) are two of the top Jazz clubs. Hot club has a long and interesting history. I also suggest you buy the Timeout magazine, at any newstand, it's weekly and comes out on Wednesdays and there you have all the weekly concerts etc.
enjoy lisbon

Hi Saritapt,
thanks for taking the time. Looks like I've got plenty of good music to look forward to...
But if anyone else can think of anything I shouldn't miss on either 15/16/17 or 18th of March please let me know. Especially latin, african or jazz.
thanks again everyone.

P.S.
It will be St. Patrick's day while I'm in Lisbon, so if anyone wants to see a drunk Irishman in Lisbon I guess I'll be found in Gillen's....

Hi everyone,
thanks for the tips on Lisbon. I just got back and had another wonderful time in what must be one of the GREAT cities of Europe. People often use Manhattan as the big analogy for the global melting pot, but Lisbon can't be too far behind.
We stayed in a great hotel, ate the most delicious foods, drank... well drank Lots of beer, and met great people - locals and fellow travellers. Thanks to anyone we met along the way, especially everyone at the JAZZ BAR, what a way to spend St. Patrick's Day.
I'll be returning again soon.
