Noticed your reply on my thread. Where in Scotland are you from? I am also from Scotland, from Aberdeen
The elephant sanctuary sounds good! Are you booking volunteer work at this end or just waiting until you are over there? I'll be in Vietnam about the 24th August after doing my China tour, then heading to Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and flying out of Singapore to Oz on the 24th November. I'm also hoping to do a bit of volunteer work at an orphange in Cambodia.
Would be great if you fancy meeting up for any part of the trip
aww ace, luv a wee aberdonian!! haha!! im from stirling!!
well, would probably book the elephant sanctuary from this end, you cn do it on the website, just so its done!
was gonna spend around 3 months in SE asia aswell and head to Oz in November so our timings are bang on! would be good to meet up, would much rather have a partner in crime!! haha!! you have the orphanage thing booked??
where abouts in aberdeen u from?? ive got friends from Sauchen!
could you give me a note of the elephant sanctuary website so i can have a nosey please? i love elephants!
the orphange im hoping to volunteer at is just a little one run by a poor couple - there are no fees for volunteering (usually organisations charge a fortune!) you just go along and help them out for as long as you like teaching the kids english, playing with them and just helping with food and care. they only have 13 children living there but they also offer basic education to kids from surrounding villages. they have a basic website: http://www.savechildreninasia.org/ i thought it looked like a genuine cause ...
i'm from bridge of don which is just outside the city centre i've never been to stirling but i have drove past it many times! what you studying at uni?
that'll be fab if we can meet up. what countries in asia you planning to go to? oh and are you up for the full moon party in koh phangan 2nd november?!
im so excited!!!
heres the site...http://www.elephantnaturefoundation.org/go/volunteer...its a few hundred quid for the week but i think it will be worth it, had a wee look at one in Laos that was only 75 a week but was a minimum of 2 months and wasnt as keen on it, this one sounds much better!!
my next door neighbour is from there...paul young, think he does chemistry at heriot watt! im doin accounts & finance! what do u do??
would love to see as much of the place as possible, its so cheap aswell so wouldnt mind spendin a good 3 or 4 months there before Oz. my friend has been a few times so iv got a huge to do list!! haha!! defo defo up for the full moon party....that was at the top of her list!!! will be ace!!
quite fancy goin to one of the wee hill tribes near chang mai, just for the banter...they can teach you how to cook!! haha!!...http://lisuhilltribe.com/index.htm
will check the orphanage out too, dunno if I have a strong enough heart for it but it would be good to do!!
the elephant sanctuary looks so good! seems quite worth the money aswell as thats all your food and accommodation too and the elephants are so cute!
i'm doing publishing and journalism, but i have realised i have no idea what i want to do as a job! i just want to move from country to country all my life! ha.
i've been to thailand before and did a homestay thing but to be honest it all seemed a bit put on and commercialised, it wasn't really how they lived or dressed on a daily basis. but that one looks quite good ...
when are you planning to book your flights?
do you have facebook or bebo for keeping in touch before the travels commence?
I've got money to book my flights just now but its kinna awkward with the girl i'm meant to be going with...im almost guaranteed she aint gonna go (or have enough money anyway) n i think she only wants to go for 6 months where as i want to go the full year but we just haven't spoke about it coz weve kinna fell out at the mo n i dont want to book it without knowin for sure whats happenin if u get me...complicated i know!!!!!! haha!!
the elephants look ace, cant wait to go!! would u be up for it??
i know, i dont wanna get a job either...planned to come back and do my masters but quite fancy just takin 2 years out instead of 1 but im too scared just incase i end up wanting to come home in a year and dont have money for flights!! haha!!
i'll private mail you my email address
u spoken to any others that r gonna be around the same time as us??
ah yes that does sound like an awkward situation! ha. i just booked mines a few weeks ago, took the plunge and now have to start saving from scratch again! i offered all my friends to come along for any part of the trip but no one was interested in asia at all (which i don't understand!) one of my friends is going to come to australia though for 3 weeks. but im much more excited about asia than oz for some reason.
i'd definitly be up for the elephant thing, looks really worthwhile doing
i've spoke to a boy who is going to be in thailand in november so that's a possibility, and another boy through lonely planet that is going to be in vietnam the same time so it's a start at least. i've heard it's really easy to meet other backpackers along the way which will be good. you heard back from anyone else?
im the same...asia looks so different...my friend was in Oz last year and said Sydney was just like here but with sun!! thats why id rather spend quite a bit there!!
i know...ma bank balance looks ok just now but will have a big dent once the flights are paid...and insurance and visas n all that crap!! found quite good insurance tho for £210 for the year so think i will just get that ...http://quote.travelinsurance.co.uk/backpackers/
ive been talking to 2 other girls on here who will be there at roughly the same time, there in my friends and iv only been on here 2 days....bet there will be millions nearer the time...boys are so unorganised!! haha!! a few pals from uni want to go travelin but dont think anythin is booked so im sure there will be at least someone to catch up with at some point!!
im just tryin to decide exactly where i want to go...n i cant!! haha!! think i myt venture to borneo to see if a can bag maself an orangutan!! haha!! indonesia and malaysia look really nice n there proper cheap aswell so think i will spend some time there b4 Oz...Xmas in the jungle!!! haha!!
am far too excited...not even started my dissertation yet!! FUCK!!
can book the elephant thing from this end if you like, think its gets full pretty quickly
i know it's so hard to decide - all the countries in south east asia look so beautiful and interesting. i would like to go to borneo and also bali and a few other places in indonesia but i'm having to leave that out for this trip the baby orangutangs are the best - sooooo cute!
oh i know i've started my dissertation but every time i try to concentrate i end up googling travel stuff! ha. it's such a distraction!
yeah maybe nearer the time i'll be able to book the elephant thing, once i've saved up enough spending money!
let me know when you decide what countries you are fancying for definite and when you are heading to them
