My first ever trip to Europe - Amsterdam, Switzerland

I need a big help from all of you. I am going for the first time to europe, have no clue never moved out of US ever, i need your expert advice me to plan my trip.

Plan is to visit Amsterdam, Switzerland, my childhood dream during july 2nd week this year.

I need you to guide me the must see of these places, staying 2 nights in amsterdam and 3 nights in switzerland, if you can also let me know how to reach switzerland from amsterdam that will help me to plan also.

2 nights in Amsterdam and 3 in Switzerland? That is not enough time to really see these places. I strongly recommend having 4 days for Amsterdam and at least 10 for Switzerland.

There are two ways to get from Amsterdam to Switzerland, one is the Pegasus CityNightLine night train from Amsterdam to Zurich and the other is flying. You should plan your trip in such a way that you fly into Amsterdam and leave from Zurich or Basel airport.

As for the main sights, just pick up a decent guidebook. Rick Steves or Lonely Planet, you'll need them anyway during your trip.

Your first time out of the USA and the first place you are going to is Amsterdam? 2 days is not enough time for your jaw to make it back from the floor!! You will have a great time and you are going right in at the deep end so be prepared for ANYTHING to happen in Amsterdam.
