hey there flying in vancouver for boarding in whistler for 2-3 weeks then basicly heading south!!!

im a 23 yr old male who loves fun and exciting things, meeting lots of people,
i am on a budget but not too tight. but plan to stay in hostels as much as pos for meeting people and having good times!
basicly my parents live in texas houston, and im making my way there, what is the best way to travel, taking in to acount cost, and meeting people, i dont mind driving.
plan to be getting in to houston around late may some time not important on when i arrive really.
any one got any musts or a possible route?? ive heard route 1 is good to drive etc.
any help would be great, also ive travelled round thailand and oz a lot so any one need info for there or uk just let me know.

Well, I could be of help here. I did this 10 years ago but you wouldnt be disappointed.

Vancouver to Calgary- go through the canadian rockies.
Calgary to Yellowstone Park- the park itself is worth the trip..geysers, bubbling mud, so beautiful
Yellowstone to Las Vegas- Vegas (do i need to say more?)
Vegas to Grand Canyon
Grand Canyon- houston

You can fill in the blanks along the way. You cant go wrong with this. ALong the coast, fog will be an issue, especially closer you get to San Fran.
