Ill be off to Hong Kong soon. Can anyone advise me on a place for that kind of budget (going with wife) or should i just stick to Chunking Mansion?

We always stay at Chungking, but we have heard a lot of good things about Dragon hostel in the Mongkok area. It's a little bit further out than Chungking but a better standard of rooms prices for a double private bathroom room are between HK$250-380 so US$33-49 (or thereabouts!)

A lot of people on here have recommended it.

As loubylou mentioned, the Dragon hostel gets quite some good reviews by members here. There's been some forum threads on it if you want to see what others wrote, and I see from the listing we have that the latest review from February was pretty good as well. Seems the rooms are all pretty small in HK! :)

The Dragon hostel is very nice, small but clean.

Slightly more than the US$50/night you mention is the Ibis Hotel at Northpoint - starts from about US$60/night if booked a bit in advance.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the Dragon then...

Mojorob... the Ibis looks brilliant but when i checked their prices, they are more like than US$140 not $60. Where did you find $60 booking in advance?

I just called up Dragon for booking double with pvt shower for mid April - full already! Only got shared shower, and my wife (since she's Thai) isnt keen on that at all.

Any other ideas? US$60 is ok too.

It is dependant on the dates as well - I looked and some nights are HK$480, but other nights are more than that. I saw this on the Ibis website.

The Metropole at Mong Kok last year had a double room for just over $60. It's a nice hotel, quiet location, a few minutes walk from Mong Kok subway with convenience stores nearby. My only complaint was that the bed was hard, but I like a soft bed.
