All right, I am making a plan of trip to Italy next month. There are several tour companies advertising guided tour trips to Italy. Does any one have first hand knowledge about these trips and how they were treated and the accommodations that were provided? Did you really get your moneys-worth? Can you recommend a very good tour company for a trip to Italy? Any good recommendation will be appreciated.

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

I would suggest forgetting about tour companies and just plan your trip yourself. Your money will go a lot further and you'll have more time to focus on going where you want to go and seeing what you want to see - instead of what the tour company thinks you should be interested in.

I've been to Italy a few times. Best was a tour with Archer's Direct (UK internet company). Food was so-so. Accommodation OK but we saw a lot of Italy in a fairly short time. No worrying about hotels, transport, luggage, meals, where to go next or guides. It was all laid on.

If you do it on your own, you can book entry tickets in advance. the one place where this definitely needs doing is the Uffizi gallery in Florence as you can otherwise wait many hours to get in.
