I'm planning to head to Oz & Nz in a few months and wondering how other working holiday visa holders are finding it? Is it as hard as we're hearing to find jobs? I've been planning this for quite a while and really don't want to have to cancel all my plans Any replies greatly appreciated
I can't talk on behalf of working holiday people who obviously don't seem to be reading this post, but I can say that the unemployment rate has started to get a lot higher than it has been in recent years and the ads for jobs are on the decline.
Come down under and do your working holiday. You may need to settle for jobs that are probably not your ideal thing, but then again that is what usually happens on working holidays.
The NZ economy is not that great at the moment but as yet it doesn't seem to be as bad as the UK/Ireland. I certainly wouldn't cancel your plans but you may just have to be more flexible than you would have been with regards to the type of job you will accept, location etc. While tourist numbers have dropped slightly in NZ since the onset of the financial crisis, it's still big business here so if you are looking for a job in tourism/hospitality you shoud be fine.
Have a look at http://www.backpackerboard.co.nz , http://www.trademe.co.nz and http://www.seek.co.nz for an idea of what kind of jobs are around at the moment.
