Accommodation in Spain July / Aug

I've booked a flight into Barcelona at the end of July, and a flight back home from Biarritz on the 18th Aug.
During those three weeks I'm hoping to head to a few places around Spain:
Barcelona
Tarragona
Peniscola
Valencia
Madrid
Toledo
Salamanca
Bilbao
San Sebastian

Firstly, is this route feasible? I'm intending to spend 2 or 3 nights in each place.
Secondly, I've been looking for cheap accommodation online and am struggling to find any outside of the big cities! My budget is quite limited and although I would be prepared to spend a little more in some places, spending 100 euros a night isn't really an option.
I would really appreciate any advice as to whether I should change my route, and any advice on where to look for accommodation ideas.

And you are missing out Andalucia - IMO the most interesting part of Spain (OK, I'm biased as I live here).

Have a look at Bed + Breakfast accommodation - even in July you should get a Double Room with Bathroom at a place with a private Swimming Pool for around 60-70 euros per night. See www.spain-holiday.com and www.homelidays.com for a good selection of B+B establishments.

Yes, I think maybe I'm being too ambitious with this itinerary! Which places should I miss out? I really want to head to Seville but need to get up to Biarrtiz for my flight home....

As I'm travelling alone, a double with a swimming pool is a little bit expensive, but I'll have a look at those websites to see what they have on offer.

I guess it depends a little bit, about what you have in mind for Tarragona and Peniscola, these are both stops on the way to Valencia from Barcelona. Are you just planning a visit (or do you want to stay more days in these places).

Toledo I would do as a daytrip from Madrid, by train it's 30 minutes from Atocha trainstation in Madrid to Toledo.

One thing to mention is that Spain (inland Spain, so for sure Andalusia and Madrid/Toledo) will most likely have very high temperatures in July/August. If you like that and keep that in mind (bring water on trips etc), you'll be fine. If you hate it, it's better to shift to May or September/October if you want to visit Andalucía and Madrid, and stick to the seaside and the north for this trip. If you want to go to the south, than Granada and Sevilla are for sure not to be missed, but there are a number of other places there that are good destinations: Cordoba, Ronda, Arcos de la Frontera, Jerez, d.l. Frontera, Cadiz and I probably forget a couple. I would set it aside for a future trip, as you can spend 14 days there easily.

just a fast calculation, in brackets the number of days, get me to 16 or 17 days already. (so you have to see if that fits, I made Valencia 2-3, as in 2 days+ to see the city, and somewhat of a half day to travel to Madrid.

Spain's a rather large country with only a few high speed trains (very expensive as well). I think you are trying a lot of places. Seville can be 45 °C in August so is bloody hot. You won´t find many Sevillians there in August. Very pretty place though.

However, cheap accommodation at www.hostelbookers.com or the travellerspoint hostel booking service (which I think is hostelbookers in disguise.

Am I right in thinking that San Sebastian is a beach town? Is there much else beside the beach to keep me entertained for 3 days?

yes it is possible to take a day trip from barca, and in my opinion well worth a day trip (you won't need much more time) it is a beautifull city with a great coastline and not that many tourists there (which I saw as a plus when i went there)

oh yeah and san sebastion is a beach town, in my opinion 4 days is one day too long in Madrid but that is because i much prefeered the coastal regions of spain
