oh yeah and san sebastion is a beach town, in my opinion 4 days is one day too long in Madrid but that is because i much prefeered the coastal regions of spain

Would San Sebastian keep me entertained for 4 days if the weather wasn't so great? I like the idea of spending a few days relaxing on the beach but if the weather's rubbish it'd be good to have a plan B!
I think you may be right about 4 days in Madrid, I may cut that to 3, especially with the temperature consideration in August!

I reopened this thread, as it appeared on the Peniscola page, and people thinking of travelling from Barcelona to Valencia might find what i have to say useful.
I notice that in the end, Blythe totally cut out Peniscola, in order to spend 2-3 days in Valencia. But, in my opinion this was a mistake, as actually Valencia in terms of overall architecture, nightlife, and overall feel is not that exciting a city.
If i was travelling from Barcelona down towards Valencia, i would look at Tarragona, certainly Peniscola, and not spend more than 2 days in Valencia, as really its quite dull in Valencia. Apart from the new Science park with the fantastic new buildings, there isnt that much to recommend it.
Peniscola has a very attractive castle, it has 7 kilometres of sandy beaches, a modern part with new bars, cafes, restaurants, and it has something for everyone.
Certainly anyone dropping Peniscola in favour of time spent in Valencia is missing out.

I'm planning a June solo trip to Paris/Bordeaux/San Sebastian/Madrid/Barcelona/Sitges/Amsterdam. My most expensive hotel is only 95 euro in Amsterdam. Use those websites mentioned and you can get private rooms for less than 100 euro. Just be sure to reserve them about a year in advance. I had a particular B&B picked out for Barcelona and, since it is during a big festival, I thought I should reserve that one early. Last August early. It was booked! So I booked all my hotels then and there. I've checked back on them and they are almost all booked now, the time I probably would have started booking for June. Book early if you're like me and want interesting-looking hotels in great locations with free wi-fi for a cheap price.
