I will be flying to Melbourne from Manchester via London and am confused about the carry on hand luggage allowance. Is it 2 bags or 1 that is allowed now? The Quantas website states 2 bags but the BAA website suggests it may be one but is unclear. Can anyone help as I don't want to get caught out?
As websites dont generally state when they were last updated, info may be "old." The best bet would be to call the toll free number for any airlines you'll be goping through and just ask a live person. Otherwise, you could just show up& hope for the best, but you may have to pay that "extra bag" fee.....generally it's $15-$25 (US) here..... so, not too bad...but be aware they may charge you that for each leg (every new plane you get on).... have fun!
We had a similar problem travelling from Australia a couple of years ago. My understanding is that the one bag criteria applies to some UK airports, so while the airline might allow it, the airport might not so it's best to check with the airport as well. When we came across this at Luton airport, we weren't given the option of paying extra, I had to phsyically fit one bag into another so that I only had one carry on bag, which I was luckily able to do.
