travel from Greece to Turkey!?!

i am travelling through Greece and then planning to head to Turkey.. does anyone know the easiest way to get between the two?
or if it is easier to get to Turkey from Athens or Crete?

Apparently there's a train between Thessaloniki and Istanbul.
