Debating about travel insurance companies!

Travel Forums General Talk Debating about travel insurance companies!

Hellooo! I am currently a tad confused when it comes to Travel Insurance. See, on my last trip I used Bon Voyage, which was recommended to me by the travel agency I was going through. Now, on my second trip, I am going at it agency-less and I have learned there are plenty of options when it comes to Travel Insurance, with many that are cheaper than Bon Voyage. The one I heard most about was World Nomads, which has an awesome reputation and can be bought and renewed online, which is useful. Its also half the price of Bon Voyage. The only downfall is that, as a Canadian citizen, I am not covered for Rock Climbing (an activity I was planning to do on my trip). Bon Voyage does cover for Rock Climbing, it just lacks the convenience and affordability of World Nomads.

Does anyone have any good/bad points about Bon Voyage or World Nomads? Does anyone have any other magically cool companies that would be cheap, convenient, AND cover Rock Climbing? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've had good and bad (and plain awful) experiences with travel insurance companies. It is essential you make the right decision, during the past few years I've used QBE (purchased through STA Travel) who offer pretty comprehensive cover but are also very expensive. I think I'll try World Nomads next, since it seems pretty good value for money (anyone had any experiences to share?) and they are recommended by the Lonely Planet (for what its worth). Perhaps you could just go with World Nomads and try to pay separately for rock climbing insurance through the organization your booking it through?

But see, I don't know what organizations there are in the places I am going, or if they offer insurance? I mean, I suppose I could just research this. :P But I just would rather it be covered by my regular insurance, so I wouldn't have to worry about it every single time I go rock climbing.

The TA recommended that company to you because they take a cut of the fees.

That being said obtaining insurance for rock climbing in other countries is going to be expensive and difficult

I've seen this agency here in Vancouver recommended by experienced Canadian travelers but haven't used them.
