Hello all, just a quick question. I will be spending the Majority of my Working Holiday living up around Grimsby/Hull as my family is mostly located up there.
I have planned to do a couple of long trips to Europe and also a couple of circuits of UK (mainly Sheppey, Eastbourne, London, Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, North Wales, Manchester before going back to Hull, to catch up with many freinds and family throughout)
As an integral part of the holiday is to actually work to keep money flowing in to do these things, i was wondering if people had suggestions of some places that are well worth seeing on a day/2day trip from Grimsby that i could do on the weekends between the working weeks (so that it still feels like a holiday).
Places both big and small take my fancy for different reasons, so any suggestions of little known treasures or must see places are very welcome
I will have a car whilst over there so there is no restriction on getting to places via train/bus.
The Lake District is withing your reach, use the Youth Hostel for accommodation and you can see a lot of the area and you can return for as many visits as you want.
The Yorkshire dales are worth exploring.
You can make the journey up to Edinburgh on friday night, spending the weekend there and back Sunday afternoon.
You can do the same for London, acomodation there can be basic Piccadilly Backpackers hostel or there are a bit more expensive places.
You can do a lot of places on bicycle, get there and hire if you can't take one with you, see this site for more detail ideas, http://www.sustrans.org.uk/
Here are some other places to get information and building a plan, doing this will be like planning your holiday every weekend....you can look at: -
if I can help any more on this get back to me.
Enjoy you holiday weekends.
The beautiful North Yorkshire Moors and Coast- Whitby very nice town with great fish and chips!
The Cotswolds! And it will be very useful that you will have a car, cos some of these small villages you can't get to on public transport! Enjoy!
I would also recommend you take a trip over to "Pateley Bridge" while you're in the area...just beyond Harrogate. There is an area of natural beauty there called Brimham Rocks, which blows my mind every time I go there...it's acres of prehistoric ice-age rock formations, and climbing clubs often use it for practice. It's stunning. Check it out at: http://www.brimhamrocks.co.uk
Cheers everyone for the suggestions, they are all exactly the type of things i was looking for. The Brimham rocks look great for somehing interesting and amazing to do on the weekend. I will be taking on board all of your suggestions and making a point to attempt to make them all part of my plan. Please add some more suggestions if you come accross this post later on, as i will love some more.
Thanks to you all.
