Who can give me some more information about the Philippine Railways? Are there currently trains running between Manilla and Legaspi City? If so, where can I find the timetable? On their official site I can't find anything...

Even on http://www.seat61.com there's nothing mentioned about travel by train in the Philippines.

We don't get a lot of Tourist in the Manila. I have taken hard seat trains in so many countries in Asia. But I cant imagine taking trains in the Philippines.

Its just not something that people do... or travellers do... I don't know... It's not like Thailand or China or Vietnam, where travellers would take trains... Philippine National Railway, whoa, its that what they call it? I could see it everyday, but who rides it.

I would travel on it any day - it an awesome adventure.

Anyway travel to Legaspi will not be possible again until 2010 following Cyclone Reming in 2006, which caused extensive damage.

For more information on the Philippine railways feel free to check out my Philippine Railway and Transportation special interest sites.

The transportation one is only new and needs much work.

yup I don't think the PNR connects Manila and Legaspi as to date.. I believe it currently runs only upto Calamba in Laguna Province... PNR is currently going through some modernization but the project hasn't started con

But there are a lot of provincial buses that can take to Legaspi though it takes about 12 hours to get there. You can try BLTB or Philtranco buses... this blog has details of it...

No, it only runs down to Alabang and on a very limited service.

The rebuild has well and truly started, indeed most of the Linkage project to Alabange is done and the first new railcar arrived today.
Work on Southrail to Legaspi has already started.
Even Northrail has finally seen some progress..

Best wishes
