Railways is not popular in the Philippines anymore. There is in Manila but it's just around the Metropolitan and doesn't really go to other places aside from that. You could take buses and/or plane though.
Railways may not be that popular in the Philippines anymore but since 2009 when the new aircon DMU's started operating, a lot of people have started riding the train again. Nowadays, everyday to Manila and to Alabang the DMU's are packed like sardines and PNR badly needed additional DMUs. And because of that, a lot of people, specially those whose provinces are on the far north and far south of Luzon that back then had the Northrail and Southrail are waiting for the revival of the railways. In Southrail the Bicol Express scheduled this June 2011 and the Northrail which is still under construction. On the other hand, the LRT, MRT and the new LRT3 are always popular trains for commuting within Metro Manila. Its only going to Visayas and Mindanao that the railway is not popular because of no single railway system circulation for the whole country and provinces that the railway doesnt reach. Thats where Buses and Planes and Ships are popular. But currently there are also plans of constructing a railway in Mindanao and in Panay (Antique, capiz, roxas..). People like me and Sir Brad PNR 5004 are railway enthusiasts and we are promoting Philippine Railways and encouraging people to support Philippine Railways, even if they dont necessarily ride it coz its not on their way to their everyday destination. Hope we can influence you to support Philippine Railways .
