I am eagerly looking forward to a long delayed trip to the Sea World in San Diego. I have heard volumes about it, read about it and seen some awesome pictures and videos. But I have never been there. I love marine life and this trip sure is gonna be a dream come true for me. I have been hunting for some good place to stay, somewhere near the Sea World. Mark, a friend of mine suggested California Suites Hotel, which he says is located nearby and is good value for money. I checked out their web site http://www.californiasuiteshotel.com[/url. So far it looks good. But a second opinion is always welcome. Can someone tell me if it is a good budget hotel?

Yes, it's fine as cheap hotels go--and on a major street in the northern part of San Diego with lots of restaurants close by. It's not that close to Sea World, but it won't take much more than 15-20 minutes to get to Sea World from there.

Enjoy your trip. I think you will like Sea World a lot.

Even though you're a budget traveler, I would not stay way out on Claremont Mesa Blvd. It's true that water side places are a bit more, but it's your vacation! There should be a few budget motels in that area (on the highway and not directly on Mission Bay or the beach). Google for "Mission Bay San Diego motel" to get a list. Also consider going to Priceline and bidding on area hotels - believe you can specify Mission Bay in your search criteria. Even in La Jolla and Pacific Beach there's usually a few inexpensive places. Claremont Mesa is nowhere near water. San Diego traffic can be hell - especially the freeways at rush hour, and in La Jolla.

You should check out La Pensione. Great rates, fantastic location, and I absolutely love the place. www.lapensionehotel.com

If you have the time, take in the San Diego Zoo in downtown Balboa Park. The landscaping is as impressive as the animals.
