If all goes well financially i will be travelling asia in 5-6months.

I will travel with my gf and we aim to travel around each of the following countries:

China - Japan (Short 2 week stay at a friend's house) - Phillipines - Cambodia - Thailand (not necessarily in this order)

This is the initial plan & we were hoping for about 6months or longer if we like where we are. We don't mind staying in hostels but would prefer to have a private room in most cases.

How much would you travel people estimate this kind of trip would cost?

I need to work to some kind of budget as neither of us want to go dirt cheap - we are used to saving in most areas but certainly want to be able to undertake various activities wherever we are.

What other countries would you recommend in the region and why?

Don't miss Vietnam, I really enjoyed it much more than Thailand on my recent trip last week (cheaper, less developed and friendlier). Also Laos and Cambodia.

Suggest stop off at Japan first . Then to China . After China fly to KL or BKK. Many flights from China to KL or BKK , at a cheaper price.

From there do a "Truely Asia" round trip of Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. All these countries has it respective attractions and cultures. Nov till Jan in this places - Can expect cool weather.

Since time is not an issue suggest you travel all these places. Note that the period of Dec & Jan is "Peak" season for most countries here. So Guest House/Hostel/Hotel rates may go up.

Also note that 5 to 6 months is in Sept/Oct nearing winter season.

Then from KL or BKK fly to Philippines or Indonesia. KL has a better air connection around ASEAN.

If you plan to fly around ASEAN/ASIA countries suggest you check out .

Have an Enjoyable and Safe trip.
