Hi, I need some advice! I have my rucksack ready for my trip. Obviously there are alot of straps on it and I was wondering if any one had any suggestions as to what they did to keep these all together so the don't get caught during transit etc. Iv heard that you can get your rucksacks put in a bag at the airports but this doesn't sound practical....any ideas as to what you did....if any thing? Thanks Becky
Becky, if you cant hide them in each compartment I would suggest buying the cheapest and lightest duffle bag that your bag will fit in( how long are you going for)? This will protect your bag and help with excess baggage if you should need it. Honestly I have travelled through a lot of airports with a back pack and as long as you tie the straps up your ok.
It depends on how decent your backpack is. If you got a cheap and nasty one well the straps will probably not have anywhere to hide, but better backpacks have hiding/tuckaway spots for most the straps.
Both the ones I have had had a little hidden area at the bottom of the bit your back goes on. In that it had a well hidden pull out sheet which zipped over the straps and main arm bits so that the large majority of all loose straps were covered over for putting on the plane. It zips over very tightly so it can be hard to do up properly but does eventually do up. After that is zipped over then it only has a couple of loose straps which clip on and then I just roll the lose bit around the clipped on bit until they don't stick out too much.
Without seeing your backpack it is impossible to tell if yours has this sheet hidden or what the best way to avoid any straps getting caught would be in your case.
I am in the process of Shopping at the moment for my pack to take to NZ later in the year, and I discovered a bag designed for packs that you can use for Airport Transit. I found it on the Black Wolf .com.au website.
If I remember correctly it was listed as an accessory. Not sure of the price, but I guess you could try one of their stockists. (I did'nt chek that bit - sorry).
I am heading into Melbourne to try my luck at the Queen Vic Market, as I was recently told there are a few luggage outlets in and around there - hopefully good for first time back packers like me!
