Hi all,

Would love some advice on the best ways to spend my 3 days in LA, before I make the trip over to Vegas.

I will be staying in the Venice beach area, and will have a car. I plan to make a small trip up the coast and back again, How far up do you think I should go? Malibu? or is it worth going further? I'm regretting now that I haven't allocated enough time to get up to San Fran.

Also i want to make sure I see as much of LA as possible in my short space of time, Any recommendations on tours etc would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

One thing you might consider is hitting the Getty Museums while in LA. Both are free and well worth your time.
Send me a PM if you want help with Vegas.

Malibu is only 30 mins from Venice. I would suggest going up to Santa Barbara for the day. Like someone said, the Getty musuem off the I-405 is good. A trip to Griffith Park at night is great , you park at the top next to observatory.

Dont know if you like baseball but going to Dodgers Stadium is an experience in itself. The atmosphere and those hotdogs...Oh the memories. ANd baseball is cheap, if the dodgers are in town. Hollywood Blvd is ok. There are stars but also homeless and druggies all over the place. Not like it use to be.

All of these are quite close together:

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is a good choice.

If you prefer prehistoric artifacts then the La Brea Tar Pits is down the block.

The Petersen Automotive Museum collection is great.

A good place to eat is the Farmers Market at 3rd & Fairfax. They'll have something you'll like.

Have fun.

I suggest you go up the coast as least as far as Solvang and Los Olivos and the surrounding wineries, then back down past Santa Barbara (stopping at the mission, along State Street and at the pier) before returning back to LA.

As far as what to see in LA, lots of good choices on here already.

I like Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino--and, of course, some people have to see Disneyland in Anaheim.

Enjoy your trip.

Many thanks guys, really helpful and great suggestions. I will certainly drive beyond Malibu then, I didn't realize it was so close. Will probably go as far as Santa Barbara and see what happens when I get up there.

Only one more thing - One of my co-travellers is really keen on Universal Studios, Whereas I would prefer to do other things. I seem to have taken control of the planning up to now so may have to give in to this idea. Would you say to its well worth going?
