I know, I know, there is already a similar thread already on the forum! However, that one was posted in 2006, I'm not 18. :)

I'm coming over on a working holiday makers Visa for 2 years and so I'm looking to rent (let), not buy.

Any suggestions?

well, depend what kind of lifestyle you fancy. countryside, city & happening places, cultural, ....

I like countryside. so i choose yorkshire. peak district is here as well. if you like big city then go for london, birmmingham or manchester!

Where are you planning on working? Inner city areas are very expensive in big towns so you'd have to commute, which is expensive. Train or coach is better than car in London but car can be better in other places (though traffic is often bad).

While living in town will have you near a job, shops, etc, it can be tough, noisy and in places, even dangerous. For me, I liked living in Kent (south east of London) which has many picturesque little towns and seaside resorts. The Medway area is not a bad place to live (Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, and further eastwards, and not over expensive, with easy trains into central London.

At present, Britain is suffering from the downturn so lots of people out of work. Not the best time to be looking for a job there.

The good news from your perspective is that rental prices are coming down due to oversupply. The bad news is that employment prospects are going down, as the decade-long debt-fuelled housing bubble upon which the British economy has been based, has burst. Currency devaluation (30% in the past year) has resulted in higher food and fuel costs, thus reducing most people's discretionary disposable income, which is leading to a negative feedback loop of less spending on non-essentials and hence more redundancies. You could maybe try Ireland, Iceland or Latvia for alternative job prospects.
