Hi all.. I have an issue with my snoring....sometimes. Therefore I'll be staying mostly in motel rooms on my RTW trip. But if I did have to stay in a dorm, what are people's reactions likely to be if I get a snore up?
Might sound stupid, but beside an understaning girlfriend, I usually don't get much sleep worrying about what others think...
I tell u what: I love to talk in my sleep- in English, in German.... and once my dad claimed that I even sang one night, when I was a child ...
I slept in dorms all the time while I was travelling and people usually just think it's funny and make jokes about it the next day. Most of them also know, what to do, if somebody snores...
Sometimes 'snoring people' drive u crazy... U r tired, u just wanna get some sleep, bec u probably didn't have any for the last few days etc.
I actually just felt annoyed, when people came back from a Pub, being noisy, drunk and waking everybody up...
It's all about showing consideration and snoring is something, where u can't do anything about it!
Don't worry, if somebody gets upset, he will tell u about it! And I guess u r not gonna share a room for 10 nights with the same people!
all the best
You can always try those nasal strips that prevent snoring or lessen the noise. I don't know what they're called exactly but I've seen them in some pharmacies, so try asking your local pharmacist if they carry any of those.
I sure understand how you feel.
I suffer from sleep apnathyna, and i can sure snore, and wake up startled by my own snoring or stop beathing.
I.m worried sick
in case i snore on plane or when in hostel.
It is oh so embarassing.
Snoring really isnt a big deal to me. I dont snore myself and ppl who do dont bother me at all. I mean some people get upset about it interupting there sleep but what are they doing in a dorm if they are that picky about their sleeping enviroment. Snoring is obviously not something that you do intensionally to irritate someone and it can't really be changed. A light sleeper in a dorm should have ear plugs. I really dont think you should feel as if you have to stay in a hotel.. I understand you feel bad and/or embarresed. (i talk in my sleep occationally)... but if someone is upset enough to make you feel as though you should be in a hotel they should be the one in the hotel..
I hope my perspective will help you feel better about staying in a dorm.
and like Kathi said, as long as you are considerate and respectful in your dorm room when you come in late or whatever, most will overlook the fact that you snore.
All wise words... Thank you... Put me a little at ease...
I totally understand. My girlfriend and I both snore and I also talk in my sleep, once even seen playing an imaginary computer game in bed..
What a pair we're going to be travelling round the world next year!
Still, there's nothing we can do about it, just have to hope nobody minds too much.
My boyfriend doesn't snore, but he has the strange quirk of leaping out of bed in the middle of the night and yelling "Help me!".
Apparantly, he does this at home, in dorms, in hotels... It's more funny than anything else, and it's mostly laughed off (although once he turned around and asked me who I was and that was a little disturbing...).
When people know it's out of your control, they're pretty understanding. It's the people who make noise on purpose who are very difficult to tolerate...
I snore sometimes, mostly when i have a little cold or something. One of my old roomates would tell me its so bad that he couldnt fall asleep all night, but my girlfriend has never complained. she says i snore sometimes, but its not bad at all. I'm going to australia for a year and i'm not worried about it at all.
all of your stories are so funny!!
i only snore when im extremely tired, which is rarely. and when i snore, i snore loud. at least thats what my friends told me. my room mate had to sleep outside at times. when i was a kid i was caught sleepwalking on some nights. funny.
