I'd like to try this schedule (am i nutz???) my goal is just to hang out with the locals and move on:
City Arrive Depart
Frankfurt 18-Feb 19-Feb
Munich 19-Feb 21-Feb
Dresden 21-Feb 22-Feb
Berlin 22-Feb 24-Feb
Barcelona 27-Feb 1-Mar
Madrid 1-Mar 4-Mar
Paris 5-Mar 7-Mar
Munich 7-Mar 8-Mar
Can this all be done on rail? whats the diff on EUrail and interail? Whats the diff on normal prices vs. night train sleepers for EUraio or interail?
Bringing the Liberal Green Cheer from the US of A ... down with Bush -- up with anyone else -- in my best Jesse J impersonation
Frankfurt to Munich - 249 miles
Munich to Dresden - 283 miles
Dresden to Berlin - 120 miles
Berlin to Amsterdam - 660 miles
Amsterdam to Barcelona - 1007 miles
Barcelona to Madrid - 391 miles
Madrid to Paris - 1250 miles
Paris to Munich - 831 miles
TOTAL 4791 miles / average = 599m per day (8 days travelling)
So travelling at an average of 50mph that’s an AVERAGE of 12 hours a day travelling (that’s if each journey averaged 599m each day)! Presumably you have to sleep and eat too…….. so call that 6 hours a night sleeping and 2 hours a day eating, that works out at 140 hours over 18 days in total. So that’s 96 hours travelling and 140 hours sleeping and eating = 236 hours spoken for. In 18 days there are only 431 hours in total, so that leaves you with 196 hours to ‘hang out with the locals’ at 8 destinations = 24 hours in each destination (if everything goes like a military operation)!….
Assuming you meet and leave the locals at each rail station!!!! You ARE ‘NUTZ’ !
…….. I’d also add a bit on for a shower and a change of clothes otherwise the ‘locals’ won’t want to talk to you!
I hope this helps.... It’s only my dry sense of humour but I do think you should miss a few destinations out!
However it works out…. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!
OK I'll revise my plan for concentrating on Germany. Thanks for the reality check!
