Hello everyone!
We are currently in Paraguay and want to go to the area of Cusco in Peru. We don't have the time to spend much time in Bolivia and rather don't want to spend the money for flying.

Does anybode have any suggestions about which bus company we should take to get from Paraguay (Asuncion or any other place) to Lake Titicaca (La Paz?) and then to Cusco? Could it maybe also be a good idea to go by train from Lake Titicaca to Cusco?

Any recommendations would be appreciated!
Thx & Cheers, sprain

The easiest overland route from Paraguay to Peru goes through Argentina. While it is definitely possible - and quite adventurous - to go via Pozo Colorado and Marechal Estigarribbia, this is time consuming, and road conditions vary on an almost daily basis.

So, what you could do is:

Asuncion - Formosa - route 81 unto its intersection with route 34 (the town shown on my map is called General Ballivián, but I believe there is another town as well where you can actually change busses) - Bolivian border crossing at Bermejo - route 1 via Tarija, Potosì, Oruro, La Paz - Lake Titicaca / Puno - Cusco.

The entire route is serviced regularly by various bus companies; in addition, the part on route 81 through Formosa province is extremely untouristy, so that would be interesting. Still, I reckon it would take you at least 3 days in the best scenario to get to Puno.
