Hi all,
I am planning to go to Mumbai in Oct and just wanted to get your opinions on whether it is 'safe' to go there, considering last November's attacks and also where you would recommend staying, and lastly, for how long?

Although i've never been to Mumbai i've had plenty of friends who have gone there and loved it so i would say go!i live in the UK and there's constantly a 'terror threat' here but if it was as bad as they say i would never leave my front door. As my mum would say 'you could get hit by a bus tomorrow' so make the most of your life and go for it! Have fun! |

I have been living in Mumbai for 8 years now and have never felt more safe in any other town than in Mumbai. The November incidents were indeed unfortunate but it was an one off incident and such events can never be predicted. I believe 3-4 days would be fine in Mumbai. U can explore the city and the nearby Elephanta island for a day or two and if u wish to beat the heat u can take an excursion and head to the nearby hill town of Matheran which can be reached with a narrow gauge toy train. Regarding accommodation, most of the tourists prefer the Colaba location as it is the heart of the city. Range of accomodations is available in this area, Gordon hotel is good one in this area. If u want me to check out more, i can enquire about other hotels. Colaba is very near to my office location Mumbai is a lovely city and safe and u can just drop in and feel free to contact me for more information about mumbai or india in general Cheers |
