Everyone will weigh in on their favorite spots in SEA. I am going to vote for: Boracay in the P.I. Railay Beach in Thailand. DaLat in VN. Angkor in Cambodia. [ Edit: Edited on 02-Apr-2009, at 22:32 by vegasmike6 ] |

Indeed, everyone is going to have their own favorite place in all these countries so this list will get long. But here's mine. And I'll start by saying that Vietnam is hands down my favorite countries of the ones I've been to. India: In no particular order - Ladakh, McLeod Ganj, Jaisalmer, Pushkar, Varkala, Hampi, Mumbai, |

In India my favourite place was a town called Bundi. It is beautiful and colourful, the people are the most amazingly welcoming, friendly people. There are few tourists there but it is becoming more popular so hurry up and get there! Thailand: Has to be Kanchanaburi. Apart from the town itself the history there is overwhelmingly moving. Cambodia: Angkor Laos: A little place called Tad Lo, quite far south so often missed out on the SE Asia loop but there are fantastic cabins right on the waterfalls there which are perfect for swimming in. Vietnam: Sapa in the North is fab for trekking and a really interesting homestays. Nha Trang is good for partying and beach life. Not been to Indonesia or the Philippines but sure you will have lots of fun. Enjoy! |

I've been to all those countries and my all time favorite is: the Philippines, more particular the island of Bohol. In total I've spent there already more then a month, and next January I'll go back for my third time. In Vietnam you should not miss Chau Doc, on the Cambodian border. This place is dotted with beautiful Khmer style temples, filled with curious kids/monks and the food is magnificent is this area! Like Philymop said, in Laos you have to visit Tad Lo, a place off the beaten track with beautiful nature. In Cambodia, it is obvious you'll have to visit Angkor, but be sure to check out Mondulkiri. When you're in Indonesia, be sure to visit some vulcanos like Berastagi, Rinjani, even the Bromo,... And in India, it's a bit difficult to point out my most favourite place: there is Hampi, Kerala, Sikkim,... |

I love India - but most tourists find it dirty and stinky. But on the whole, India is a feast of the senses, the food, the sights, the culture, and of course the cows poo on the street. For Vietnam - I recommend the CuChi Tunnels if you want a dose of history. But the best place I can recommend is my country - THE PHILIPPINES , you definitely have to visit Boracay. It's the best white-sand beach in the world. Last time I went there is for my honeymoon. My husband loved it. [ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ] |

Thanks all. I am defintely going to make a special effort to visit most / all of the places listed above. It is especially great to hear about smaller less well-known places that may not be neccessarily reccommended in the guidebooks! If any of the you do have any more reccommendations, please keep sending them my way! |
